BABL went to BALTIC
BABL went to Brighton for Press & Release at the weekend for their ‘Off the Page’ day of bookish events.
There was no better place to be on the gloriously warm weekend than by the sea. Heading to Brighton with the full BABLibrary in tow, we listened, prescribed, laughed and basked in the delight of all those we met. The fabulous Press & Release exhibition lived up to expectation, with just a week left, please visit if you have the chance. It’s a shrine to artist’s book display and dissemination. Perfect. With thanks to all of the lovely people who shared their saturdays with me and the BABL.
*Tomorrow* - Saturday 16th between 4 - 6pm I will be giving a 5 minute presentation as part of the ‘Show & Tell’ event at The Cornerhouse.
They say ‘Come and get a taste of what’s happening in the minds of some of the city’s leftfield innovators, as we bring Manchester’s visual arts community and thriving digital design sector together in a playful and informal setting. Eight artists and designers will make lightning-quick presentations about a current project, experiment or source of inspiration – the ideal way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
First up is Artist and book binder Lucy May Schofield, curator of The Bibliotherapy Artist’s Book Library (BABL), a touring mobile library home to over 150 artists’ books. If you want to check her work out, it’s on at Paper Gallery now.’
Thank you Caitlin.

BABL’s visit to BABE at the Arnolfini was simply lovely. Thank you to the stranger who escorted me to the centre of Bristol rather than just directing me on a map, and to each and every visitor to the library who shared precious moments of their bank holiday weekend to have a chat and a read with me. In turn, I hope we helped. We were received with such kindness and curiosity on our maiden voyage and more artists donated fantastic new titles to the library while we were dockside. The Arnolfini were super and we’d love to return to Bristol again soon.
Insulation, breathable membrane and 6mm birch ply all now installed. A productive bank holiday weekend thanks to SP.
Dolores PASSED her MOT. sigh.
Babl will be heading to The Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh next Tuesday 29th. What a treat.
Palette inspiration for the next stage of BABL’s development. An afternoon of washing and waxing, measuring and planning, there are so many exciting decisions to make in terms of designing her library-like interior.
An inspirational van spotted in Berlin. Thinking a lot about sign writing choices for Dolores.
We celebrated our one year anniversary this week with a jaunt out reaching 60kmph, air in her tyres, a bottle of prosecco and a killer sunset. It’s been a difficult year, infuriating and expensive but I’d have her no other way.
